Background
Shandong Xinhua Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd is the largest production base of chemical synthetic drugs in China. The wastewater from the East Garden sewage Treatment station is composed of waste water discharged from various pharmaceutical workshops, which is characterized by complex composition, high water quality and water fluctuation,heavy odor, SS, chromaticity and salt, and contains a large number of toxic and harmful substances, inhibitory antibioticsand refractory substances. The concentration of COD, ammonia nitrogen and organic nitrogen in sewage is high, and the pH changes greatly. The existing sewage treatment process has been unable to meet the environmental requirementsunder the new situation.
Implementation Idea
In order to improve processing capacity to ensure the effluent water quality, IFAS is implemented in A/O process to replace the original TCBS process, without increasing the tank capacity. The nitrification function of the system was strengthened by adding suspension carriers to the aerobic zone.

A typical case of MBBR process for pharmaceutical wastewater with strong impact resistance and denitrification ability;
A typical case of MBBR process in high temperature operation by the effluent is stable and meets the emission standard in the case of high water temperature (summer temperature over 35 ℃);
MBBR process can be used for comprehensive treatment of high salt, high ammonia nitrogen wastewater with Chloride ion concentration is usually above 10000mg/L, and ammonia nitrogen up to 400mg/L, which the concentration of free ammonia is still high after adjusting pH.
